Why should we need Prebiotics?

Prebiotics are a type of fiber that the human body cannot digest.Prebiotics are present in fibre rich foods ( follow my blogs for importance of fibre containing foods) , such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Sources:

Prebiotics play an important role in human health. They naturally exist in different dietary food products including sugar beet, garlic, onion,wheat, honey, banana, barley, tomato, soybean, human’s and cow’s milk, peas, beans, etc.

Function:

1. Reduce the risk of colorectal cancer

2.Reduce the risk of Chron's disease and ulcerative colitis

3. Help in regular bowl movement

4. Lower the chances of obesity

5. Improve our immune system

6. Help in calcium and mineral absorption

7. Reduce appetite and cravings

Side effects:

Intake of  prebiotics in daily  diet should be gradually increased. Immediate addition of substantial quantities of prebiotics to the diet may result gas, bloating, or bowel movement. 

A daily dose of 2.5–10 grams is  minimum required for our health.Prebiotic powders can be mixed with beverages like water juices.It can also be added to foods like curd . But it should be start with a smaller dose and then slowly increase the amount to minimize digestive side effects.
